SPINAL MOTION RESTRICTION PROTOCOL TRAINING

NYS has issued a training module for the updated Suspected Spinal Injury protocol T-8. Please see the attached memo and supporting documents for instructions on completing this training. NYS has issued a deadline of October 31, 2015 for the didactic and skills portion to be completed. As this is a NYS requirement, it is NOT required that this be completed on shift.

NYS has updated Protocol T-8 ‘Suspected Spinal Injuries’. Per NYS all providers must complete the

webinar and skills verification by October 31, 2015. Attached you’ll find the FAQ with info on accessing

the webinar and test, the updated T-8 Protocol, the skill sheets and Advisory 15-09 from Dr. Cushman.

1- View the webinar (1.75 hours)

2- Take the 25 question test and pass with an 80% or higher

3- Print the test results email or certificate

4- Bring the email or certificate to one of the following for skills verification (~ 1 hour). You must have

a minimum of 3 in a group and a maximum of 6 to properly work through the skills.

a. Linda Missel

b. Brian Bartolick

c. Alex Cook

d. Chris O’Brien

e. Eric Rathfelder

All requirements must be completed by 2359 hours on October 31, 2015.

I HIGHLY recommend having the webinar and test completed by September 30 to allow

ample time to arrange for skills verification.

As this is a NYS requirement, is it NOT required that the webinar, test and skills be

completed on shift. However, those verifying skills will do so while they are on shift.

If you complete the skills verification with another agency, please submit a copy of your test results and

skills verification to HVA.

PLEASE do not put the skills into clinical practice until Dr. Cushman gives the OK.
